Find unity and hope in 2020

Exactly 12 months ago my husband and I were heavily on the hunt for a new home, we knew what we wanted but we were getting frustrated trying to find a home to fit all of our needs. A big need being a place where I could run Fitness You Can Live With. Our biggest concern was a comfortable, private spacious setting for clients in a good location where I could retain my current clients and be accessible for new opportunities.

We found the home we love and with the help of so many I was up and running for a few weeks and then well you know…. 2020 happened! My biggest fear now became just surviving as a small business and still being able to provide value “virtually” on some level.

I like so many others have had to think outside of the box, pivot, create opportunity in 2020, thank goodness for the Fitness You Can Live With app I have been able to create custom content for clients to work on at home, thank goodness for the tech of that as well as google duo and zoom for one on one sessions, I’m sure we have all had to utilize them and get familiar with them at this point.

I was not sure when or to what capacity I would be able to even work with people in person again, my husband was furloughed for 10 weeks, we didn’t know if he was going to have a job waiting for him or not.

A scary time for so many of us, and now here we are several months later and in a lot of ways it feels like we are going backwards…. uncertainty is popping up, winter is creeping in, restrictions are happening, patience is being tested.

I know we are all excited to close the chapter on 2020 and I know that 2021 will have some major tests as well. Jan 1st will not be the answer to all of our worries but I do have hope in humans and I do have hope that we will be OK but only if we HELP each other, LEAN on each other, LISTEN to each other and ASK for help. The mental toll is taking its effect on many people from kids to seniors, no one was prepared to deal with any of this but here we are in it together.

the year that memes really amped up to a new level

In this year of what seems like division everywhere I challenge you to find unity in some part of your life and pass it on, be an example of what coming together looks like. We are the most isolated and divided we have ever been. How can you find some freedom and unity in your small part of the world? We cannot control everyone’s thoughts and beliefs but we can control our reaction to it and how much energy we put into negative thought patterns will take its toll on us. Just like how we have control of what we put in our body and how we move our body everyday, we still have control over a lot of things and how we use that control can shape us.

I do not have any great words of wisdom in my last blog post of 2020 other than use these last few weeks to

reflect on the positives of this year (dig deep they are there)

what have you learned about yourself? (I have a big list)

take the time for self care because no one is going to create that time for you besides you (read that again)

create some sort of unity, see the world from someone else’s perspective (you may not be so different from them after all)

prioritize your physical and mental health, and maybe help someone you see might be struggling with their own

Fitness You Can Live With is nothing without all the amazing people I work with and have worked with over the past 10 years…you are all special and I appreciate you all more than you know!
